Copeland is currently in the middle of his fourth professional season, suiting up for Bamberg Baskets in the Basketball Bundesliga, the top division of men’s basketball in Germany and a league renowned for helping produce various NBA players, as well as being regarded as a top 10 league globally in terms of its talent pool. A 6-foot-4 guard from Oakland, Calif., Copeland currently sits fifth in points per game in the Bundesliga, scoring 18.1 points per game while also leading his team in three-pointers made with 83. University of Nebraska product returns to Brampton

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday the signing of guard Mike Nuga for the 2024 season. Nuga, a former NCAA Division I athlete at Kent State and UNLV, played two seasons for the Saskatchewan Rattlers in 2022 and 2023. “I am very excited to join the Edmonton family and have the chance to build something in the community, “ said Nuga. “I’m a fan of how coach Baker approached the game as a player and am excited to be able to learn from him as a coach. The goal is a championship, and that’s what I’m giving 110% of my effort to in Edmonton.” Nuga competed in 19 games for the Rattlers in 2023 where he averaged 13.3 points per game, in-part due to an 11 game stretch of double-digit scoring efforts to start the season. In 2022, the Toronto native was named the Rattlers Breakthrough Player of the Year as a professional rookie, appearing in 9 games and scoring 6.4 points per game. “We are very excited to be able to bring Mike to Edmonton for the summer,” said Head Coach and General Manager Jordan Baker. “He is a young professional who is always looking for ways to improve his game, and Stingers fans will love his energy. As a proven scorer and playmaker in the CEBL. Mike is a great addition to our backcourt.” Currently, Nuga is playing in Spain for Caceres CB of the LEB Gold League, averaging 11.3 points across his first four games. He also has professional experience as a member of the London Lightning in 2022-23 and 2023-24; Nuga suited up in 39 games averaging 14.2 points per game in the NBCL and BSL with the Lightning. Prior to turning professional, Nuga was a member of the 2021-22 UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (NCAA DI), playing in 31 games and averaging 6.1 points and 3.0 rebounds. He had transferred from Kent State, where in 2020-21, he put up 17.9 points in 13 games including an NCAA career high 26 points vs Western Michigan on January 9th, 2021. Previous to his DI experience, he played 3 seasons for Eastern Florida JUCO of the NJCAA, making 54 appearances and scoring 11.3 points per game. Originally born in Nigeria, the 6’2” guard grew up in the GTA before heading south of the border where he attend Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Nuga and the Stingers will return to the Edmonton EXPO Centre on June 2nd to host the Saskatchewan Rattlers in their home opener. St. Catharines, ON - The Niagara River Lions today announced the signing of 6’7 Canadian forward, Nathan Cayo. Cayo, a 26 year-old from Montreal, Quebec averaged 14.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists during the 2023 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season playing for the Montreal Alliance . “We are very excited to welcome Nathan to our organization,” said Head Coach and General Manager, Victor Raso. “Nathan has been an excellent player for Montreal the past two seasons and will be a great addition to our team this summer. He impacts the game in winning ways, causes matchup advantages in our favour, and loves to compete. Welcome to the NRL, Nathan!” Cayo becomes the first new name signed to the River Lions for the 2024 season after the team recently announced six returning players, Khalil Ahmad, AJ Davis, Eddie Ekiyor, Jahvon Blair, TJ Lall and Kimbal Mackenzie. Cayo played five seasons at the University of Richmond , averaging 8.9 points, 1.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 155 games. Cayo became the 50th Richmond Spider player to reach 1000 career points and finished with a field goal percentage of 55.2%, ranking 4th all time in the program’s history. Cayo helped the Spiders qualify for the March Madness Tournament during the 2021-22 season where he scored 15 points in a win over the University of Iowa to help Richmond reach the second round. Cayo started his professional career with the Montreal Alliance in 2022 where he averaged 12.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 20 games. After the 2022 CEBL season, Cayo took his talents to Poland to play for Astoria Bydgoszcz in first division Polish Basketball League , where he averaged 8.4 points 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists earning himself an all-star selection in week 23. After returning to the Alliance for the 2023 season, Cayo has been in the G-League where he averaged 1.4 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.4 assists in 2 games for the Memphis Hustle . The Calgary Surge have re-signed Stef Smith for the 2024 season, the team announced Wednesday. Smith served as point guard in the Calgary Surge’s inaugural season. He started in 21 games and averaged 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 30.1 minutes per game. This was his second season in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), after receiving his professional start with the Guelph Nighthawks, where he averaged 7.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 17.6 minutes in 16 games played. “Bringing Stef Smith back to Calgary was a priority of ours. He has become one of the most dominant guards in our league and arguably the best clutch shot maker period,” said Surge General Manager Shane James. “He was our backbone and we relied on him to lead our team both on and off the court. The Ottawa BlackJacks of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday the signing of South Sudanese-American Forward Peter Jok for the upcoming 2024 CEBL season. A six-foot-six forward from South Sudan, Jok averaged 8.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 21.1 minutes across 166 professional games played in the NBA G League, in Spain and in France. Jok played six games for the Orlando Magic (2019) and the New Orleans Pelicans (2017) in the NBA Summer League. Notably, he recorded 22 points, one rebound, two assists and one steal on July 14, 2018, against the Nuggets. Currently concluding his NBA G League season with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Jok spent the previous four years playing in Europe. Jok began his professional career in the NBA G League during the 2017-18 season with the Northern Arizona Suns and continued with them into the following season, averaging a career-high of 14.3 points in 43 games. He made five or more three-pointers in a game on six occasions, with a season-best of six triples on December 30 against the Warriors. Collegiately, Jok had an illustrious career with the University of Iowa Hawkeye, and averaged 12.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 22.4 minutes across 125 games from 2013-2017. He finished his career ranked 15th in Iowa career scoring (1,508) and fourth in three-pointers made (216), making four or more three-pointers 17 times. He was also named Iowa's all-time best free throw shooter, boasting an .881 percentage (310-352). Jok had his best statistical season as a senior, averaging 19.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.1 steals, and 30.7 minutes in 32 games. He garnered several accolades, including First Team All-Big Ten as voted on by league media and coaches, Senior Class Second Team All-American, as well as Iowa’s Male Athlete of the Year honors. Copeland is currently in the middle of his fourth professional season, suiting up for Bamberg Baskets in the Basketball Bundesliga, the top division of men’s basketball in Germany and a league renowned for helping produce various NBA players, as well as being regarded as a top 10 league globally in terms of its talent pool. EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday the signing of guard Mike Nuga for the 2024 season. Nuga, a former NCAA Division I athlete at Kent State and UNLV, played two seasons for the Saskatchewan Rattlers in 2022 and 2023. “I am very excited to join the Edmonton family and have the chance to build something in the community, “ said Nuga. “I’m a fan of how coach Baker approached the game as a player and am excited to be able to learn from him as a coach. The goal is a championship, and that’s what I’m giving 110% of my effort to in Edmonton.” Nuga competed in 19 games for the Rattlers in 2023 where he averaged 13.3 points per game, in-part due to an 11 game stretch of double-digit scoring efforts to start the season. In 2022, the Toronto native was named the Rattlers Breakthrough Player of the Year as a professional rookie, appearing in 9 games and scoring 6.4 points per game. “We are very excited to be able to bring Mike to Edmonton for the summer,” said Head Coach and General Manager Jordan Baker. “He is a young professional who is always looking for ways to improve his game, and Stingers fans will love his energy. He had transferred from Kent State, where in 2020-21, he put up 17.9 points in 13 games including an NCAA career high 26 points vs Western Michigan on January 9th, 2021. Previous to his DI experience, he played 3 seasons for Eastern Florida JUCO of the NJCAA, making 54 appearances and scoring 11.3 points per game. St. Catharines, ON - The Niagara River Lions today announced the signing of 6’7 Canadian forward, Nathan Cayo. Cayo, a 26 year-old from Montreal, Quebec averaged 14.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists during the 2023 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season playing for the Montreal Alliance . “We are very excited to welcome Nathan to our organization,” said Head Coach and General Manager, Victor Raso. “Nathan has been an excellent player for Montreal the past two seasons and will be a great addition to our team this summer. Cayo played five seasons at the University of Richmond , averaging 8.9 points, 1.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 155 games. Cayo became the 50th Richmond Spider player to reach 1000 career points and finished with a field goal percentage of 55.2%, ranking 4th all time in the program’s history. Cayo helped the Spiders qualify for the March Madness Tournament during the 2021-22 season where he scored 15 points in a win over the University of Iowa to help Richmond reach the second round. Cayo started his professional career with the Montreal Alliance in 2022 where he averaged 12.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 20 games. After the 2022 CEBL season, Cayo took his talents to Poland to play for Astoria Bydgoszcz in first division Polish Basketball League , where he averaged 8.4 points 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists earning himself an all-star selection in week 23. After returning to the Alliance for the 2023 season, Cayo has been in the G-League where he averaged 1.4 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.4 assists in 2 games for the Memphis Hustle . The Calgary Surge have re-signed Stef Smith for the 2024 season, the team announced Wednesday. Smith served as point guard in the Calgary Surge’s inaugural season. He started in 21 games and averaged 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 30.1 minutes per game. This was his second season in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), after receiving his professional start with the Guelph Nighthawks, where he averaged 7.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 17.6 minutes in 16 games played. “Bringing Stef Smith back to Calgary was a priority of ours.
