EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday the signing of Canadian guard Ryan Richmond to their 2024 roster. After a four year standout career at Bentley (NCAA DII), Richmond has three years of pro experience in Germany and Spain. “I’m very grateful to have been blessed with the opportunity to have my first CEBL season be with the Edmonton Stingers,“ said Richmond. “[It is] a successful franchise with amazing fans and culture. I’m excited to play with my new teammates and coach Baker. I’m looking forward to contributing in every way I can to the team’s success this summer.” The Toronto native finished this last season splitting time with Melilla CB of the Spanish LEB Gold and SG Luetzel of the German Pro A league, averaging 9.9 points per game across both teams. He played two seasons in German domestic leagues in the years prior, averaging 16.4 points per game in 60 games from 2021 - 2023. Before turning pro, the 6’1” guard had a successful career with the Bentley Falcons where he owns three of the top five scoring averages in school history. He averaged 23.0 points per game in his senior year – a mark aided by a 44-point performance on January 16th vs American International – alongside a career high 3.6 assists. In his junior year he put up a career best 23.6 per game; before that he eclipsed the 20-point per game average mark in just his sophomore season, notching a 22.6 per game average. Across his NCAA career he racked up numerous individual accolades including an NABC Division II All-America Team in his senior year and numerous all-conference selections throughout his four year career. Saskatoon, Sask. - The Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday that the club signed 6-foot-8 Somto Dimanochie for the 2024 season. The Canadian forward made his professional debut in 2022 after being selected by the Edmonton Stingers in the CEBL Draft. The York University alumni returns for his third CEBL season with the Saskatchewan Rattlers. “Somto is a player with great potential that ran into some injury problems last year in the CEBL,” said General Manager and Vice-President of Basketball Operations, Barry Rawlyk. “He brings a combination of size and athleticism that is rare in this league. We look for him to raise the level of competition on our team.” Dimanochie played two consecutive seasons with the Edmonton Stingers; 2022 11th overall pick, and 2023 fourth overall pick. During his time in the CEBL, he averaged 2.5 points, 1.2 rebounds, 0.3 assists, and 5.9 minutes in 13 games. His 2023 season was cut short due to injury, and he spent the 2023-24 season training for his return. Prior to his professional debut, Dimanochie played four seasons with OUA’s York University Lions averaging 11.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 0.7 assists, and 25.3 minutes playing 67 games with 61 appearances in the starting lineup. During his third season with the Lions, he grabbed a total of 140 rebounds which was ranked second in the OUA and first on the team. He averaged 20.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.8 blocks, 0.9 steals, and 31.0 minutes in 20 games during his final season. Closing out his time with York, he put up two career-best 32 point performances which led to him earning Team MVP honours. He was dominant as a senior in the OUA, ranked seventh for points per game (20.3), third for total blocks (33), and second for rebounds per game (11.3). “I am excited for the opportunity, and excited for this new challenge,” said Dimanochie. “I can’t wait to meet the Rattlers fans this year.” Somto Dimanochie joins the newly assembled roster consisting of Bryson Williams , Elijah Harkless , Emmanuel Bandoumel , Cody John , Maurice Calloo , Adong Makuoi , and 2023 Rattlers Defensive Player of the Year - Anthony Tsegakele . The Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday that they have signed the 2023 CEBL Canadian Player of the Year, Kadre Gray. Gray averaged 16.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 32.5 minutes per game for Ottawa last season. He led the CEBL regular season in assists per game and was also named to the 2023 CEBL All-Canadian team. The Toronto native is currently playing for GTK in the Poland-OBL where he is averaging a team high 9 assists per game in addition to 15.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 33.2 minutes through 28 games. Gray posted nine double-double games in points and assists this season and recorded a triple-double with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists on April 20 vs. Sokol. The Laurentian graduate is one of the most decorated players in Canadian university basketball history. He captured 10 major awards over his four years with the Voyageurs including 2017-18 U SPORTS Athlete of the Year, 2017-18 and 2018-19 U SPORTS Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, U SPORTS Top 8 Academic All-Canadian award, three consecutive OUA Player of the Year selections and 2016-17 OUA and U SPORTS Rookie of the Year. Gray joins his 2023 teammate Jackson Rowe on Scarborough’s roster this season. Other new faces include Hason Ward, Jaden Campbell and 2024 CEBL Draft picks Koat Thomas and Davante Hackett. The Calgary Surge have signed Matt Grace for the 2024 season, the team announced Monday. Grace most recently played in the OPAP Basket League, the top-tier level of men’s professional basketball in the Cypriot basketball league system, for the APOEL Nicosia. During the 2023-24 season, he averaged 8.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.6 blocks, 0.6 steals, and 23.2 minutes in 18 games played. “We are excited to have Matt sign with the Surge. Matt had a great season overseas and has been able to get some professional experience under his belt,” said Surge General Manager, Shane James. “Matt also fits into Coach Vernon’s system because of his ability to shoot the ball and space the floor.” In 2023, Grace graduated from the University of Richmond in Virginia where he averaged 8.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.7 blocks, 0.5 steals and 27.8 minutes through 29 games played with the Spiders. In 2022, the Hamilton, Ontario native also led the Spiders to an Atlantic-10 Championship by making the game winning field goal. “I’ve only heard great things about the Surge organization and the city of Calgary,” said Surge forward Matt Grace. “I can’t wait to get out there and get the season started.” Prior to his time with the NCAA D1 program, he graduated from the RISE Centre Academy in Brantford, Ontario. The Ottawa BlackJacks of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday the signing of American Forward Jakeenan Gant for the upcoming 2024 CEBL season. A six-foot-eight forward from Springfield, Georgia, Gant has competed in Israel, France, South Korea, in the NBA G League, and in the CEBL across a six-year professional career following a successful NCAA Division I collegiate career. Last summer, Gant averaged 7.9 points and 3.9 rebounds in eight games played with the BlackJacks. He recorded season highs of 13 points and seven rebounds while also hitting the Target Score winning bucket on July 9 against Vancouver. Gant gained his first CEBL experience during the summer of 2021 with the Saskatchewan Rattlers, averaging 13.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in seven games. Gant spent the 2023-24 campaign in Israel with Hapoel Beer Sheva. He averaged 14.9 points and 5.9 rebounds in 25 games played. He scored a season-high 32 points to go along with five rebounds, one assist, and three steals on Dec. 9 vs. Ironi Nes Ziona. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette alumnus tipped off his professional career with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA G League. In 29 games played, he averaged 8.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 16.5 minutes. He scored a season-high 27 points, shooting 11-for-19 from the field and four-for-eight from three-point range on January 3 against the Capital City Go-Go. He also played four games with the Indiana Pacers at the 2019 NBA Summer League and averaged 3.0 points and 2.5 rebounds. Gant split his university career between the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns (63 games) and the University of Missouri Tigers (53 games). As a senior with the Ragin' Cajuns, Gant earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors, was named the league's Defensive Player for the second straight year and claimed Lefty Driesell Defensive All-America honors for the second consecutive year. He led Louisiana and finished third in the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) in scoring (20.5), led the league in rebounds (8.7), blocked shots (2.6), and double-doubles (13) while finishing second in the SBC in field goal percentage (.543) and offensive rebounds per game (3.2). He finished the season ranked in the top 50 among Division I players in six categories, and his 81 blocked shots and 2.6 blocks per game average were the fourth-best, single-season marks in school history. EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday the signing of Canadian guard Ryan Richmond to their 2024 roster. After a four year standout career at Bentley (NCAA DII), Richmond has three years of pro experience in Germany and Spain. “I’m very grateful to have been blessed with the opportunity to have my first CEBL season be with the Edmonton Stingers,“ said Richmond. “[It is] a successful franchise with amazing fans and culture. I’m excited to play with my new teammates and coach Baker. I’m looking forward to contributing in every way I can to the team’s success this summer.” The Toronto native finished this last season splitting time with Melilla CB of the Spanish LEB Gold and SG Luetzel of the German Pro A league, averaging 9.9 points per game across both teams. He played two seasons in German domestic leagues in the years prior, averaging 16.4 points per game in 60 games from 2021 - 2023. Before turning pro, the 6’1” guard had a successful career with the Bentley Falcons where he owns three of the top five scoring averages in school history. He averaged 23.0 points per game in his senior year – a mark aided by a 44-point performance on January 16th vs American International – alongside a career high 3.6 assists. In his junior year he put up a career best 23.6 per game; before that he eclipsed the 20-point per game average mark in just his sophomore season, notching a 22.6 per game average. Across his NCAA career he racked up numerous individual accolades including an NABC Division II All-America Team in his senior year and numerous all-conference selections throughout his four year career. Richmond joins the Stingers backcourt alongside returning guards Adika Peter-McNeilly and Elijah Miller, as well as 2024 additions Mike Nuga and Davion Warren. Saskatoon, Sask. - The Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday that the club signed 6-foot-8 Somto Dimanochie for the 2024 season. The Canadian forward made his professional debut in 2022 after being selected by the Edmonton Stingers in the CEBL Draft. The York University alumni returns for his third CEBL season with the Saskatchewan Rattlers. “Somto is a player with great potential that ran into some injury problems last year in the CEBL,” said General Manager and Vice-President of Basketball Operations, Barry Rawlyk. “He brings a combination of size and athleticism that is rare in this league. We look for him to raise the level of competition on our team.” Dimanochie played two consecutive seasons with the Edmonton Stingers; 2022 11th overall pick, and 2023 fourth overall pick. During his time in the CEBL, he averaged 2.5 points, 1.2 rebounds, 0.3 assists, and 5.9 minutes in 13 games. His 2023 season was cut short due to injury, and he spent the 2023-24 season training for his return. Prior to his professional debut, Dimanochie played four seasons with OUA’s York University Lions averaging 11.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 0.7 assists, and 25.3 minutes playing 67 games with 61 appearances in the starting lineup. During his third season with the Lions, he grabbed a total of 140 rebounds which was ranked second in the OUA and first on the team. He averaged 20.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.8 blocks, 0.9 steals, and 31.0 minutes in 20 games during his final season. Closing out his time with York, he put up two career-best 32 point performances which led to him earning Team MVP honours. The Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday that they have signed the 2023 CEBL Canadian Player of the Year, Kadre Gray. Gray averaged 16.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 32.5 minutes per game for Ottawa last season. He led the CEBL regular season in assists per game and was also named to the 2023 CEBL All-Canadian team. The Toronto native is currently playing for GTK in the Poland-OBL where he is averaging a team high 9 assists per game in addition to 15.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 33.2 minutes through 28 games. Gray posted nine double-double games in points and assists this season and recorded a triple-double with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists on April 20 vs. Sokol. The Laurentian graduate is one of the most decorated players in Canadian university basketball history. He captured 10 major awards over his four years with the Voyageurs including 2017-18 U SPORTS Athlete of the Year, 2017-18 and 2018-19 U SPORTS Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, U SPORTS Top 8 Academic All-Canadian award, three consecutive OUA Player of the Year selections and 2016-17 OUA and U SPORTS Rookie of the Year. The Calgary Surge have signed Matt Grace for the 2024 season, the team announced Monday. Grace most recently played in the OPAP Basket League, the top-tier level of men’s professional basketball in the Cypriot basketball league system, for the APOEL Nicosia. During the 2023-24 season, he averaged 8.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.6 blocks, 0.6 steals, and 23.2 minutes in 18 games played. “We are excited to have Matt sign with the Surge. Matt had a great season overseas and has been able to get some professional experience under his belt,” said Surge General Manager, Shane James. “Matt also fits into Coach Vernon’s system because of his ability to shoot the ball and space the floor.” In 2023, Grace graduated from the University of Richmond in Virginia where he averaged 8.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.7 blocks, 0.5 steals and 27.8 minutes through 29 games played with the Spiders. In 2022, the Hamilton, Ontario native also led the Spiders to an Atlantic-10 Championship by making the game winning field goal. “I’ve only heard great things about the Surge organization and the city of Calgary,” said Surge forward Matt Grace. “I can’t wait to get out there and get the season started.” Prior to his time with the NCAA D1 program, he graduated from the RISE Centre Academy in Brantford, Ontario. The 6-foot-5 guard played two seasons at Florida SouthWestern State College before transferring to Samford University. Campbell averaged 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 22.5 minutes per game through 32 games for the Bulldogs last season.
