The Calgary Surge have signed Matt Grace for the 2024 season, the team announced Monday. Grace most recently played in the OPAP Basket League, the top-tier level of men’s professional basketball in the Cypriot basketball league system, for the APOEL Nicosia. During the 2023-24 season, he averaged 8.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.6 blocks, 0.6 steals, and 23.2 minutes in 18 games played. “We are excited to have Matt sign with the Surge. Matt had a great season overseas and has been able to get some professional experience under his belt,” said Surge General Manager, Shane James. “Matt also fits into Coach Vernon’s system because of his ability to shoot the ball and space the floor.” In 2023, Grace graduated from the University of Richmond in Virginia where he averaged 8.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.7 blocks, 0.5 steals and 27.8 minutes through 29 games played with the Spiders. The Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday that they have signed Brampton native Jaden Campbell. The 6-foot-5 guard played two seasons at Florida SouthWestern State College before transferring to Samford University. Campbell averaged 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 22.5 minutes per game through 32 games for the Bulldogs last season. Campbell joins new faces Hason Ward, Jackson Rowe and 2024 CEBL Draft picks Koat Thomas and Davante Hackett on Scarborough’s 2024 roster. 2023 CEBL champions Cat Barber, Kalif Young, Danilo Djuricic and Kyree Walker also re-signed with the Shooting Stars. The reigning CEBL Champions open training camp May 15. They begin their season on the road at Canada Life Centre on May 24 where they tip-off against the Winnipeg Sea Bars. The Ottawa BlackJacks of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday the signing of American Forward Jakeenan Gant for the upcoming 2024 CEBL season. A six-foot-eight forward from Springfield, Georgia, Gant has competed in Israel, France, South Korea, in the NBA G League, and in the CEBL across a six-year professional career following a successful NCAA Division I collegiate career. Last summer, Gant averaged 7.9 points and 3.9 rebounds in eight games played with the BlackJacks. He recorded season highs of 13 points and seven rebounds while also hitting the Target Score winning bucket on July 9 against Vancouver. Gant gained his first CEBL experience during the summer of 2021 with the Saskatchewan Rattlers, averaging 13.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in seven games. Gant spent the 2023-24 campaign in Israel with Hapoel Beer Sheva. He averaged 14.9 points and 5.9 rebounds in 25 games played. He scored a season-high 32 points to go along with five rebounds, one assist, and three steals on Dec. 9 vs. Ironi Nes Ziona. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette alumnus tipped off his professional career with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA G League. In 29 games played, he averaged 8.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 16.5 minutes. He scored a season-high 27 points, shooting 11-for-19 from the field and four-for-eight from three-point range on January 3 against the Capital City Go-Go. He also played four games with the Indiana Pacers at the 2019 NBA Summer League and averaged 3.0 points and 2.5 rebounds. Gant split his university career between the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns (63 games) and the University of Missouri Tigers (53 games). As a senior with the Ragin' Cajuns, Gant earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors, was named the league's Defensive Player for the second straight year and claimed Lefty Driesell Defensive All-America honors for the second consecutive year. He led Louisiana and finished third in the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) in scoring (20.5), led the league in rebounds (8.7), blocked shots (2.6), and double-doubles (13) while finishing second in the SBC in field goal percentage (.543) and offensive rebounds per game (3.2). He finished the season ranked in the top 50 among Division I players in six categories, and his 81 blocked shots and 2.6 blocks per game average were the fourth-best, single-season marks in school history. EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday the signing of G-League experienced guard Davion Warren. The Texas Tech alumni has competed in two G-League seasons, most recently with the Long Island Nets where he averaged 11.6 points per game in 21 appearances. “I’m excited to be a part of the Edmonton family,” said Warren. “I’m looking forward to the loud atmosphere and great attendance by the fans and plan to bring the CEBL Championship back to Edmonton.” This past season, Warren was an efficient scorer off the bench, playing 17.8 minutes per and averaging 11.6 points on 53% field goal shooting. Warren began his pro career in 2022-23 with the College Park Skyhawks, the G-League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks. As a rookie he played 17 games, scoring 5.4 per game. Prior to turning pro, the 6’6” Buffalo NY native played 5 seasons of post secondary, finishing his career with Texas Tech. In his lone year with the Red Raiders, he started 33 out of 37 games, averaging 9.4 points and 3.0 rebounds. His efforts helped his team to a second place Big-12 Tournament finish, a 3rd place ranking in the NCAA tournament and a Sweet 16 appearance. From 2019 - 2021, Warren attended Hampton, where he averaged 21.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for the Pirates in his second season. His play earned him numerous individual accolades including All-District First Team, Big South First Team All-Conference and Hoopshd.com Big South Player of the Year, and First Team All-Conference. Warren transferred to Hampton after two season with Olney Community College in the NJCAA. The Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday that they have signed Jackson Rowe. The 6-foot-7 forward recently played for Santa Cruz of the NBA G League where he averaged 12.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.2 steals in 30 minutes per game through 49 games. The Toronto native is no stranger to the CEBL. Rowe played the past two seasons in Ottawa where he averaged 12.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 26.8 minutes per game over 31 games for the BlackJacks. He was named to the CEBL All-Canadian team in 2023. Rowe played four seasons at CS Fullerton where he posted a career average 12.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1 block and 0.8 steals in 30.4 minutes per game over 111 games. He was named Big West Conference Freshman of the Year in 2017. He was named an All-Big West Honourable Mention honoree in 2018 and 2019. He finished his time with the Titans second all-time in career rebounds (811) and second all-time in career blocks (113) and was named a second-team All-Big West Honoree. The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday the signing of Greek forward Petros Melissaratos to the roster. Melissaratos has played the entirety of his 12-year professional career in the top two leagues in Greece (Greek A1 Basket League and Greek A2 Basket League), averaging 9.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 20.2 minutes in 260 games. He brings a veteran presence to the Honey Badgers roster with experience in FIBA 3x3 events and the Greek national team. “Petros brings leadership and experience to our organization with his international resume,” said Jermaine Anderson, general manager and vice president of basketball operations. “We’re confident that he will positively impact our younger players throughout the season.” In 32 games this season with Aons Milonas Athens, Melissaratos is averaging 8.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 21.3 minutes. He finished second on the team in rebounds and blocks (0.6) per game, leading the club to a second-place regular season finish in Greek A2 Basket League. Melissaratos registered six double-doubles in the campaign, including a 22-point and 10-rebound performance January 20 against Papagou. “I’ve played my entire professional journey in Greece. This will be a new experience,” said Melissaratos. “I’m looking forward to arriving in Brampton and I can’t wait to get started.” Melissaratos has made an impact on the defensive side of the ball throughout his career, claiming All-Greek A2 Co-Centre of the Year honors in 2021 as a member of Olympiacos Piraeus. In his second season with the club, the forward averaged 13.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 23.5 minutes in 19 games. In 32 games with AS Kastoria during the 2019 season, Mellisration averaged 11.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 23.8 minutes, earning All-Greek A2 Defensive Player of the Year. A team leader in scoring and rebounding, he achieved 10+ points in 22 appearances, including two double-doubles. In 2018 with his hometown club, AS Papagou Athens, Melissaratos led the team in minutes played, rebounds, blocks, and scoring, averaging 16.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 32.6 points in 31 contests. He recorded 15 double-double performances, featuring a career-high 30 points on 12-for-18 shooting while grabbing nine offensive rebounds in a win against Doukas on February 3. Melissaratos played in 22 games during his professional debut season with Peristeri BC in 2012. The Athens native has also represented Greece on several occasions including FIBA U18 and U20 European Championships and over twenty FIBA 3x3 events, most recently the 2023 FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup. The Ottawa BlackJacks of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday the signing of Canadian Guard Yasiin Joseph for the upcoming 2024 CEBL season. A six-foot-one guard from Ottawa, Ontario, Yasiin Joseph is set to make his return to the Capital after making his professional debut with the Ottawa BlackJacks at the 2020 CEBL Summer Series in St. Catharines. Joseph has also played professionally in several European countries, including France, Hungary, Ukraine, and the Netherlands. Currently concluding his 2023-24 campaign with ALM Evreux in the LNB Pro B in France, Joseph is averaging 12.6 points, 4.4 assists, 1.5 steals, and 27.7 minutes in 30 games played this season. He scored 15 or more points in 18 games, including 20 points on January 26 against AVA. He recorded two double-doubles, one on March 29 against Saint Chamond Basket (14 points and a season-high 11 assists) and another on October 17 against Aix Maurienne Savoie Basket (11 points and 10 rebounds). The Calgary Surge have signed Matt Grace for the 2024 season, the team announced Monday. Grace most recently played in the OPAP Basket League, the top-tier level of men’s professional basketball in the Cypriot basketball league system, for the APOEL Nicosia. During the 2023-24 season, he averaged 8.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.6 blocks, 0.6 steals, and 23.2 minutes in 18 games played. “We are excited to have Matt sign with the Surge. The Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday that they have signed Brampton native Jaden Campbell. The 6-foot-5 guard played two seasons at Florida SouthWestern State College before transferring to Samford University. Campbell averaged 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 22.5 minutes per game through 32 games for the Bulldogs last season. Campbell joins new faces Hason Ward, Jackson Rowe and 2024 CEBL Draft picks Koat Thomas and Davante Hackett on Scarborough’s 2024 roster. 2023 CEBL champions Cat Barber, Kalif Young, Danilo Djuricic and Kyree Walker also re-signed with the Shooting Stars. The Ottawa BlackJacks of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday the signing of American Forward Jakeenan Gant for the upcoming 2024 CEBL season. A six-foot-eight forward from Springfield, Georgia, Gant has competed in Israel, France, South Korea, in the NBA G League, and in the CEBL across a six-year professional career following a successful NCAA Division I collegiate career. Last summer, Gant averaged 7.9 points and 3.9 rebounds in eight games played with the BlackJacks. He recorded season highs of 13 points and seven rebounds while also hitting the Target Score winning bucket on July 9 against Vancouver. Gant gained his first CEBL experience during the summer of 2021 with the Saskatchewan Rattlers, averaging 13.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in seven games. Gant spent the 2023-24 campaign in Israel with Hapoel Beer Sheva. He averaged 14.9 points and 5.9 rebounds in 25 games played. EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday the signing of G-League experienced guard Davion Warren. The Texas Tech alumni has competed in two G-League seasons, most recently with the Long Island Nets where he averaged 11.6 points per game in 21 appearances. “I’m excited to be a part of the Edmonton family,” said Warren. “I’m looking forward to the loud atmosphere and great attendance by the fans and plan to bring the CEBL Championship back to Edmonton.” This past season, Warren was an efficient scorer off the bench, playing 17.8 minutes per and averaging 11.6 points on 53% field goal shooting. Warren began his pro career in 2022-23 with the College Park Skyhawks, the G-League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks. As a rookie he played 17 games, scoring 5.4 per game. Prior to turning pro, the 6’6” Buffalo NY native played 5 seasons of post secondary, finishing his career with Texas Tech. In his lone year with the Red Raiders, he started 33 out of 37 games, averaging 9.4 points and 3.0 rebounds. His efforts helped his team to a second place Big-12 Tournament finish, a 3rd place ranking in the NCAA tournament and a Sweet 16 appearance. From 2019 - 2021, Warren attended Hampton, where he averaged 21.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for the Pirates in his second season. The Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday that they have signed Jackson Rowe. The 6-foot-7 forward recently played for Santa Cruz of the NBA G League where he averaged 12.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.2 steals in 30 minutes per game through 49 games. The Toronto native is no stranger to the CEBL. Rowe played the past two seasons in Ottawa where he averaged 12.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 26.8 minutes per game over 31 games for the BlackJacks. He was named to the CEBL All-Canadian team in 2023. Rowe played four seasons at CS Fullerton where he posted a career average 12.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1 block and 0.8 steals in 30.4 minutes per game over 111 games. He was named Big West Conference Freshman of the Year in 2017. He was named an All-Big West Honourable Mention honoree in 2018 and 2019. He finished his time with the Titans second all-time in career rebounds (811) and second all-time in career blocks (113) and was named a second-team All-Big West Honoree. Scarborough begins training camp May 15. Rowe and Hason Ward join 2023 champions Cat Barber, Kalif Young, Danilo Djuricic and Kyree Walker on the Shooting Stars 2024 roster. The reigning CEBL Champions open their season on May 24 at the Canada Life Centre where they will take on the Winnipeg Sea Bears. The team welcomes the Niagara River Lions to the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre on June 1 for their home opener and championship banner drop. Players bring experience from the NBA, NBA G League, top international pro leagues, the Canadian National team program, and top NCAA programs as well as U SPORTS. Fourteen players have signed NBA contracts following a CEBL season, and numerous CEBL players attend NBA G League training camps every year. The CEBL season runs from May through August.
